The Benefits of Cycling for Overall Body Health
A new study published in the American College of Sports Medicine’s journal has cited the importance of cycling and other non weight-bearing exercise to overall health in older adults, and specifically a reduction in the occurrence of osteoarthritis in the study’s participants. 2600 men and women with an average age of 64 years old were included in the study, and results showed those who cycled on a regular basis throughout their lifetime had a 21% reduction in the evidence and symptoms of osteoarthritis.
The health benefits of cycling are extensively documented and its low impact nature make it an attractive alternative to high impact forms of exercise such as running for active seniors.
